Our Mission
Since purchasing the property that eventually became The Rainforest Inn, the two of us have had numerous goals and aspirations: to give travelers a unique picture of Puerto Rico in a sustainable setting, to offer a retreat from the cluttered lives we lead, and to make people feel at home in an exotic space. However, above all else we strive for one thing:
To bring the experience of this awe-inspiring setting to all those who would want it.
While our guest's describe our vegetarian breakfasts as delicious, and our accommodations spacious, our hallmark is surely the nature within and around The Rainforest Inn. From the zen-like peacefulness of our koi pond to the manicured grounds; from the massive agave plants to the breadfruit, starfruit, and banana trees; from the sights atop the Lost Machete hike to the views of the Caribbean just below our Villa, we have striven to bring our guests closer to nature and nature closer to our guests.
If our first aim is to make a stay at our Bed and Breakfast an experience of nature, naturally,
We are committed to SUSTAINABILITY, and the ONGOING steward-ship of El Yunque .
We have taken almost every conceivable step towards making the Rainforest Inn a place that costs this earth very little.
All of our lights are warm LEDS, and we have abstained from air conditioning in order to keep energy costs low (don’t worry the high-ceilings, fans, and the high mountain breezes keep it nice and cool up here). We save water by using what the El Yunque gives us, collecting it in our numerous cisterns. All of our food waste is thrown directly into a compost heap that we use in the gardens throughout the property. In addition, we use no pesticides on any of our gardens, and the friendly bats and anoles of the jungle keep the property free of mosquitos. We also have exciting future eco-friendly projects that we are designing: adding to our local food production with a large aquaponics greenhouse (food to be shared with our guests) and an off-the-grid solar panel installation.
