DAY 1

Check-in at 4 PM

Bio Bay Tour in the evening

An activity that you should really do during your stay at Rainforest Inn is a kayaking excursion to the magical Bioluminescent Bay in Fajardo. All tours take about two hours, starting from the coast of Fajardo. The guides will take you along a small river all the way to Laguna Grande, one of the five places in the world where you can see the luminous algae all year round. The best time to do this tour is when there is almost no moonlight or preferably none at all. And if you’re lucky, there won’t be any clouds and you’ll be able to see a beautiful starry sky.

Dinner

In Fajardo, there are many places you can go for dinner after or before you’re kayak trip. One of them is la Estación, a restaurant where the traditional BBQ technique is mixed with Caribbean flavors and spices. This restaurant is located in a once, abandoned ESSO gas station and was transformed to an award-winning restaurant!

Another great dining place we recommend going to is El Yate, which offers an amazing view over the port of Fajardo. This view is even more beautiful during the sunset! They offer great mofongo, a traditional puerto rican dish! If you want to try this out but you’re vegetarian, be sure to ask your mofongo without bacon.

DAY 2

Morning: Hacienda Chocolat/Hacienda Muñoz

As Puerto Rico has a lot of coffee and even chocolate farms, we recommend visiting one! If you’re a coffee lover, Hacienda Muñoz is located about an hour driving from the Inn. Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning, the owners of this hacienda offer an English tour at 10am. Each tour lasts about 1 hour and 15 minutes and will take you through the whole property. They even have a restaurant, where you can enjoy a lunch after.

If you prefer to see the process of making chocolate, Hacienda Chocolat offers 2-hour tours along their property. You can even choose to combine this tour with a wine, whiskey or rum tasting. As they don’t have any restaurant, maybe you can enjoy a lunch board after arriving back at Rainforest Inn?

Afternoon: Lost Machete Hike

As you’re staying in the rainforest, a hike through it can’t be missed. Our own Lost Machete Hike takes about 40 minutes to get to the natural pool and amazing view from the waterfall! And something that makes it extra special, is that it is fully private, as it is only accessible from Rainforest Inn.

Dinner

After this pretty intensive day, there are some good restaurants close by we recommend going to. A 20-minute drive from here is Bungalu, located on the top floor of the building. They offer amazing tacos and stuffed avocados as well as a wide variety of cocktails and other drinks! If you’re more into pizza, located on the other side of the street is Lluvia. They have a brandnew firewood oven and from Friday through Tuesday you can enjoy one  of their homemade pizzas. Fishlovers should go to el Oceano en tu Mesa, also a 20 min drive from Rainforest Inn.

We have lots of other restaurants that we love going to, which you can find on our website. As well as their menus, directions and opening hours.

DAY 3

Morning: La Vista Rides

Another great way to explore the scenic views El Yunque National Forest has to offer, think about booking a horseback riding tour at La Vista Rides. This tour lasts about 2 hours and takes you along a beautiful river, to an amazing infinity pool and even a natural jacuzzi.

After this tour you can enjoy a lunch board at the Inn or maybe order a picnic lunch if you’re thinking about spending the rest of the day at the beach!

Afternoon: Seven Seas Beach or el Balneario de Luquillo

Our favorite beach which is beautiful and very private is Seven Seas Beach in Fajardo. After a 30-minute hike through the mangroves, you’ll arrive at this secluded gem! We even have a blog post where we tell you everything you need to know about it! If you’re looking for a great beach where you can enjoy a great piña colada at one of the beach bars, we recommend going to el Balneario in Luquillo, located a little closer than the Seven Seas Beach.

If you want to experience the underwater world of Puerto Rico, you should book a tour with Pirate Snorkeling Shack. They offer full day tours as well as half day tours. Our favorite is the experience at nighttime!

Dinner

Located in Luquillo, there is Sama, a great restaurant that offers an open dining with an amazing view on the beach! If you want to try a local dish, you should try out the mofongo (trifongo is even better) at la Fonda Gourmet. If you have decided to go to the Seven Seas Beach, maybe on the way back you can stop at Lolita’s to have dinner, a family-owned Mexican restaurant with great food and service!

DAY 4

Check-out at 11

Rainforest Zipline Park

After you’ve checked out and if you don’t have a flight to catch, another great activity for the adrenaline seekers is Rainforest Zipline Park. The drive from Rainforest Inn is only about 25 minutes. They offer a zipline experience that covers about 2300 ft. Or you can choose to do the adventure trail which will take you over several bridges, hiking trails, on a Tarzan’s swing and much more!

ALTERNATIVES ON A RAINY DAY

Plaza las Americas

As Plaza las Americas is the largest mall of the Carribean and the second largest in Latin America, you should definitely go here on a rainy day. This mall has over 300 stores and was the first indoor shopping mall built in Puerto Rico.

Museums in San Juan

As San Juan is located only a 20-minute drive from the Inn and offer lots of great museums, maybe you can plan this on a rainy day? The two most important museums of Puerto Rico are Museo de Arte (MAPR) and Museo de las Américas, which represent the Puerto Rican culture and heritage! MAPR exhibits some of Puerto Rico’s finest art pieces, Museo de Las Americas shows the cultural development in the Americas. Be sure to check the opening hours before you’re visiting.

Casa BACARDI

Probably one of Puerto Rico’s top highlights is Casa BACARDI, so definitely worth a visit on a rainy day. They offer several tours and experiences, the legacy tour shows you the whole history of the World’s most-awarded rum and takes about 50 minutes. They also offer a rum tasting tour and even a mixology class where you will learn some cool bar tricks and skills.
