SOME OF OUR FAVORITE CAFÉS

We have been exploring the cafes in Puerto Rico and as you can see by the map — there are a lot of them even when we limit the cafes to ones that serve only Puerto Rican grown coffee. We are discovering some favorites and we hope you will have time to visit them.

Coffee Monkey is Fajardo was a pleasant surprise and please read our blog post here about the little shop which was just founded in 2020. There are two local beans to try there, one a more traditional Puerto Rican robust flavor and the other a remarkable bean prepared with a natural sun-drying process that makes it sweeter.

Agape Kafe in Carolina is another shop not too far from the Rainforest Inn between here and the airport. They serve “Cafe Serrano” beans which are roasted in Carolina nearby the shop. When you load the above google map of shops and growers, you can click on Agape Kafe or any of the other shops we recommend or show the legend and see the whole list.

In Old San Juan you have to visit Filtrado Cafe which is hosted by owner and master brewer Enoc Rivera. The hours are unique as his doors don’t open until noon and the stay open until seven pm. There is a wonderful small courtyard in the back and you can relax and enjoy a coffee (either a perfect cappuccino or one of his filtrado brews) while you take a respite from walking around Old San Juan.

Another shop that you must visit, perhaps on the way out there from the airport (look at the map) is Cafe La Estacion. They serve the same delicious Chupacabra blend from Gustos coffee that we do here at the Rainforest Inn.
